Starting this “blogging” thing

Welcome to zubie.blog, my personal corner of the internet. To be honest, I’m new to this so called blogging thing, and I don’t know if I’ll enjoy it, let alone keep up with it, but I’m going to give it a go.

I believe a large part of my hesitation has always been privacy. I don’t have any social media accounts aside from Reddit (where I don’t post or comment), nor have I ever actually felt the need to share things online.

This a slightly morbid, but my wife and I were watching a Dateline episode recently and I was taken aback by how much the victim’s life story could be told by all of the details they shared about themselves. Instantly I told my wife, “Wow if I pass you would have absolutely nothing to show”. She promptly listed a bunch of things and told me to hush ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Still, I think I could share a smidge more.

I’m telling myself this is a “log of life”. Something I or my friends/family can look back on one day. The audience is me…I think? At least to start.

I have no clue what I’ll post, frequency, none of that. I’m sure it’ll evolve. I’m building this blog during my 2026 support rotation where I tried out WordPress Studio to build a site. I also used Telex to build a custom block so I can record softball tournament results (check out post 2).

If you’ve found yourself here, welcome.

P.S – “zubie” is what everyone called me growing up. My first ever baseball coach couldn’t pronounce my last name “Zubillaga” so he just shorten it to “zubi” which morphed into “zubie”. (I guess it read better with the “e”?
